David Letterman, Dave Chappelle, Adam Sandler, Conan O’Brien, Molly Shannon and David Spade shared memories and reflected on the death of their friend Norm MacDonald at the end of the late comedian’s new Netflix special, “Norm MacDonald: Nothing Special.” After watching a screening of MacDonald’s performance, which was recorded in his home, friends of the late “Saturday Night Live” star, discussed his impact on the comedy world. During their conversation, several of them admitted they didn’t know the star, who died in September 2021 after a nine-year battle with cancer, was sick. “I don’t know how everyone else felt here, but Norm was sick for quite a while, and he got sicker and I didn’t know and I talked to so many people who I was sure knew,” O’Brien said. “I thought, ‘Maybe I’m the only one that doesn’t know.’ … He didn’t want anybody to know and so, being the self-absorbed person I am, I think a lot of us, we thought, ‘Is he mad at me? Is there something I did?’ because we kept

Kevin Spacey charged with four counts of sexual assault - CNN

Image
London (CNN) US actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault against three men, Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said on Thursday. Spacey was also charged with one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent, the CPS said. The charges relate to two alleged incidents in London in 2005, another two in 2008, and a further incident in Gloucestershire, western England, in 2013. The alleged victim of the 2005 incidents is now in his 40s, while the two men allegedly involved in the 2008 and 2013 incidents are now in their 30s, London's Metropolitan Police said. The decision to charge Spacey "follows a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police Service in its investigation," the force said. While the charges were authorized on Thursday, Spacey is not currently in England or Wales and the charges cannot formally be applied until he enters one of those countries, a CPS spokespers

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Roars With Massive $19.3M In Previews, Sets Records For Tom Cruise, Paramount & Memorial Day Weekend – Box Office - Deadline

Image
FRIDAY MIDDAY UPDATE: It’s looking like a record opening for Memorial Day weekend as Joseph Kosinski’s  Top Gun: Maverick is set to earn $142.4M over four days, which will easily overtake Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End which did $139.8M. It’s taken 15 years for that record to be broken. Friday for the Tom Cruise sequel is looking like $50M with an estimated 3-day of $117M. That will make Top Gun: Maverick the second biggest opener for Paramount after Iron Man 2 which debuted to $128.1M, and ahead of 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($100.1M).  Top Gun 2  is also the second biggest opening day for a Paramount title after  Iron Man 2 ‘s $51.1M. Look, even if these numbers recede, this is far and away (no pun intended, Mr. Cruise) the biggest opening for the 3x Oscar nominated, near 60-year old blockbuster star. See, industry, it certainly paid off for some studios to hold their movies during the pandemic until cinemas reopened. When a

'This Is Us' Finale Recap: Season 6, Episode 18 — Rebecca's Funeral - TVLine

Image
So, how did the Pearsons’ story end? Silly! If you’ve been watching  This Is Us for the past six seasons, you already know the answer : The Pearsons’ story will never end! After all, as Kevin told us in Season 1 , “I think that’s maybe the point of the whole thing. There’s no dying. There’s no you, or me, or them… it’s just us. And this sloppy, wild, colorful, magical thing that has no beginning, no end, that’s right here? I think it’s us.” The NBC drama’s series finale serves as a quiet epilogue to its gorgeous penultimate episode, “ The Train ,” which witnessed the death of Pearson matriarch Rebecca. Together, the two installments serve as a very fitting send-off for a show that stayed true to itself throughout its six-season run. And without further ado, let’s review what happens in “Us.” (And make sure to check out our post mortem chat with series creator Dan Fogelman , as well as a breakdown of the show’s final flash-forward .) Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard Trial Peels Back Secrecy on Hollywood Decision-Making - Hollywood Reporter

Image
Through five weeks of trial, one mystery with a multimillion dollar question mark has lingered: How much were Johnny Depp or Amber Heard ’s careers harmed by the actors allegedly defaming each other? Hollywood insiders, typically tight-lipped on dealings in the industry, have taken the stand largely to push back on accusations that the duo’s public mudslinging played a part in their tumbling careers. Keeping in line with studios insulating themselves from appearing to take sides in the high-profile dispute put in motion at the height of the #MeToo movement, Walter Hamada, president of DC Films and the highest-ranking studio officer to appear in the trial, said on Tuesday that “there were conversations about potentially recasting” Heard in the Aquaman sequel but that they didn’t relate to her legal battle with Depp. Related Stories Hamada attributed the discussions to “chemistry” issues with leading man Jason Momoa . The testimony mirrors Disney production executive Tina Newman

‘FBI’ Season 4 Finale Pulled by CBS in Wake of Texas Elementary School Shooting - Variety

Image
CBS has pulled the Season 4 finale of “ FBI ” in light of the shooting at a Texas elementary school that saw over a dozen children murdered on Tuesday. The episode has been pulled due to the fact that the storyline concerned a school shooting. The official synopsis reads: “As the team investigates a deadly robbery that garnered a cache of automatic weapons for the killers, they discover one of the perps is a classmate of Jubal’s son, who is reluctant to cooperate with the case.” A repeat of “FBI” will air in the finale’s place. A new airdate for the finale has yet to be determined. Tuesday’s shooting took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. Per Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 14 students and one teacher were killed by the gunman, whom Abbott named as Salvador Romas. Romas is also dead and it is believed that he was killed by responding officers. Romas also allegedly shot his own grandmother before he went to Robb Elementary. This is the latest deadly mass shooting in the

Ricky Gervais Netflix Special Draws Fire for Graphic Trans Women Jokes - Hollywood Reporter

Image
Ricky Gervais ’ new Netflix special has stirred up a swift backlash over his use of shock humor at the expense of trans women. Only minutes into his latest special for the streaming giant, Gervais jokes: “I love the new women. The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and cocks. They’re as good as gold, I love ’em. No, it’s the old-fashioned ones, they go, ‘Oh, they want to use our toilets.’ ‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’ ‘For ladies!’ ‘They are ladies — look at their pronouns! What about this person isn’t a lady?’ ‘Well, his penis.’ ‘Her penis, you fucking bigot!’ ‘What if he rapes me?’ ‘What if  she rapes you, you fucking TERF whore!’” Related Stories TERF is an acronym for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist,” an ideology that excludes trans women as women. In his stand-up special Ricky Gervais: SuperNature , which debuted on Tuesday, Gervais cited today’s “woke, progressive times” as he discussed fellow comics and what is considered funny. He ar

Amber Heard and Jason Momoa lacked natural 'chemistry' in 'Aquaman,' president of DC Films testifies - CNN

Image
(CNN) The head of DC Films, which produced "Aquaman," testified that the creative team had concerns about Amber Heard's role in the film's sequel over a lack of chemistry with co-star Jason Momoa. On Tuesday, a March recorded deposition of Walter Hamada, President of DC Films, which is a division of Warner Bros., was played for the jury in the defamation trial between Heard and her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Hamada testified that "Aquaman" was the highest grossing film ever for the company. He said the studio never planned to portray Heard as a co-lead in "Aquaman 2" and that Heard's role was not reduced in the forthcoming film, titled "Aquaman the Lost Kingdom." "The size of the role of the film that she has was determined in the early development of the script, which would have happened in 2018 I would say. The character's involvement in the story was sort of what it was from the beginning," Hamada testified in the d

A Child Autopsy, Sexy Intestines and Kristen Stewart: ‘Crimes of the Future’ Earns Cannes Walkouts and 7-Minute Standing Ovation - Variety

Image
In David Cronenberg ’s “ Crimes of the Future ,” characters can feel no pain. Unfortunately, the same wasn’t true for the dozens of attendees at the Cannes premiere of the horror-drama that walked out midway through the film, unable to stomach just exactly what was happening onscreen. The movie also earned a seven-minute standing ovation, suggesting that it could be the most polarizing title to debut at this year’s Cannes. The film reunites Cronenberg with Viggo Mortensen (“A History of Violence,” “Eastern Promises”) alongisde Cannes darlings Kristen Stewart and Lea Seydoux. It also finds Cronenberg back in his science-fiction/horror mode for the first time since 1999’s “Existenz.” “Crimes of the Future” may not win the Palme d’Or, but it would land a prize for the weirdest movie of the festival. Mortensen plays a performance artist who has his organs operated on in some pseudo-sexual ritual in this dystopian universe. Stewart plays an employee at the transplant center, who in one
