Olivia Wilde slams 'horses--t idea' she left Jason Sudeikis for Harry Styles - Page Six
Olivia Wilde is finally reacting to rumors that she left Jason Sudeikis for Harry Styles.
“The complete horses–t idea that I left Jason for Harry is completely inaccurate,” the “Don’t Worry Darling” director, 38, told Vanity Fair in her October cover story, published on Thursday.
“Our relationship was over long before I met Harry,” Wilde continued. “Like any relationship that ends, it doesn’t end overnight.”
The actress explained that she and the “Ted Lasso” star, 46, experienced a “very bumpy road” before officially dissolving their relationship “towards the beginning of the pandemic.”
The former pair, who got engaged in 2013, co-parented their two kids during lockdown until they realized the dynamic “was no longer beneficial” for son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy, 5.
“We could be better parents as friends who live in different houses,” Wilde told the publication, bashing the “false narratives and drama” surrounding their breakup since news broke in November 2020.
“Haven’t the kids been through enough?” she asked.
The “O.C.” alum noted that she has been “very up front” with Otis and Daisy about the situation involving their father and her 28-year-old beau.
“They understand the concept of making decisions to protect yourself and to live an authentic, happy life. They really do,” she explained. “I evolved a lot between when I was 27 and 35. I found myself as a director. And I think I found myself as an individual.
“Sometimes when you evolve, you evolve out of relationships that were based on an earlier version of yourself.”
While it is unclear when exactly the “Booksmart” director and Styles began dating, Page Six published the first photos of them making their public debut at a close friend’s wedding in early January 2021.
The former “House” actress reiterated in the interview that she was not surprised her ex-fiancé served her with custody papers while she was on stage at CinemaCon in April.
“So many people were shocked on my behalf,” Wilde told the glossy. “Unfortunately, I wasn’t that shocked. There’s a reason that I didn’t stay in that relationship. Unfortunately, that was consistent with my experience of the relationship.”
The filmmaker said the same while speaking to Variety last month, calling the “appalling” move an “attack” and a form of “sabotage.”
She added, “It was really upsetting. It should not have been able to happen.”
